Vicky_CO
This is a monthly series. One of the Mods will post a business question. That question will be stuck to the top of this forum for 1 month. Programs/Software available for Accounting/Stock?
msboss
I've been using Peachtree Accounting 2011, but I am looking to find another program. I'm getting tired of all the expensive upgrades and discontinued product support for a program that's barely 3 years old!
moonshine
I use quickbooks- only because out other business's are set up with the program, I like that it allows you to set up many companies and custom set what the type if business is- retail vs. Service as far as keeping track of sales tax you owe It has an inventory feature but I do not use it- I am not nearly big enough to put that effort into it yet but it would be great for those of you who areIt also has many reports you can pull in seconds as far as previous year comparisons, pie charts on what your biggest expenses are - it takes some time and knowledge of setting up your chart of accounts but it's so worth it- you can keep your freight costs seperate from your actual material as well
Candybee
I'm a big fan of freebies so I downloaded Quickbooks SimpleStart from Quickbooks. Its easy to use for a small business. It has all the basics for keeping track of your biz but it does not have the inventory part. You have to purchase a version of Quickbooks that has that feature. But for a freebie it sure has a lot. You can also purchase accessory programs for marketing and writing checks if you want to spend the money. Since I am a soapmaker I have been toying with the idea of buying a Soapmaker program. There is a hobbyiest version and a soap business version. The program has the capability of creating and saving soap recipes and keeping inventory so you know how much you are using and when to buy more supplies. justajesuschick
My husband and I both work at a big corporation. While I do Digital Project Management, he is in inventory control. I figured if he can manage millions of dollars in product, he could manage my small business! He made a great spreadsheet for me. I like it that he has fields highlight when I get below a set quantity of my RTS items. eta: I tried to attach screen shots of a generic version but they are tiny! One is the master spreadsheet and the other is a monthly tab along the bottom. Edited September 13, 2014 by justajesuschick

Jcandleattic
I use my SM3 for both of my soaps and candles. I did use a nice spreadsheet and still have it that has all kinds of columns and formulas to figure out everything for me. All I had to do is plug in a tiny bit of data and it did everything for me. Node11
We use Sage50. Accounting, inventory and manufacturing all in one spot.I like that we can set items up as an assembly. Punch in the quantity for your batch and it prints out a bill of materials, deducts raw materials from inventory, tracks costs and ties it all in with sales giving you an accurate view of your profitability. I am looking for something to help track inventory and this would be great. No sense in reinventing the wheel!
