  1. I have butterflies, flowers, palm trees, bunnies and more that are all just one color wax that need to be spruced up a bit and actually on one site that alot of you may know have lephracan hats that they say are painted. I don't know if I am allowed to say the name of these companies. If I am I will be happy to tell you. But no I am not talking about fruit.
  2. Then what are all the embeds that are painted on painted with? Regular paint, markers, paint pens..but they are all water based. And someone told me that the little amount used is ok with the wax paint pens? Guess thats not true. But I use alot of embeds that are painted, not colored wax thats made with making the embed..actual paint. What are they using? thanks Vicki Dana
  3. Thanks so much. Where do you get the glass beads? Dana
  4. I made a tester with sand in the bottom of it and made sure the wick tab was above the sand. Well somehow the candle caught on fire soon as it got low enough it got to the sand and it caught on fire! How did this happen? I see all the time where people make oceans and sea scapes with sand. What did I do wrong? Thank god I always test everything I make. It coudn't have had anything to do with scent because I made many candles with this scent and it didn't happen untill it reached the sand. You can see the sand started to burn. Please if anyone can tell me what they think happened please do. TIA Dana
  5. Has anyone ever used these on embeds for your gel candles? I bought some and then noticed they are water based. This may seem like a stupid question because they are made for painting on wax but I know that you cannot use anything with water in gel. But better to be safe than sorry. tia Dana
  6. There are so many new scents out there, can anyone tell me what scents are good and have had good responses from for spring and summer scents? tia Dana
  7. What wick do any of you use in your double glass method candles with the 2 oz jiggers glasses inside...And what wick when you do a fruit preserves jar with wax embeds and gel? I use a jar the is 2 1/2 " at the top then goes widder in the middle. For some reason my wicks are burning out..I use a med gelwick..which is probably a 51-32-18 zinc. TIA
  8. Thanks Vicky, but I thought I read somewhere that you shouldn't use zinc wicks in soy?? Is this true?
  9. I posted these ?'s on the gel candle site and have gotten no responses, so I thought I should have posted them here. 1- what kind of wick is the best wick to use when you are making a layered soy and gel candle? 2- what kind of wick is best for a friut preserve type candle..the one where you put wax fruit in the jar and then pour gel into it it? ok 3 ?'s... does anyone know where the best place to get wax embeds are...the company I used to use is selling it..not really sure, but in anycase I placed an order with them and got an email back telling me they are currently in nagotiation in selling there inventory..so don't really know. so any help I would greatly appriciate. tia

  13. Thanks everyone. I am gunna give them a try. As far as the scent description go'es I would assume that they would be the same for all the poular ones anyway..I could be wrong though. For instance wouldn't like the "apple jack n peel be the same description for all of them? Well I am going to order the ones that are popular, I will post and let you know how they turn out. Thanks again
  14. Has anyone used scents from "the candle maker store"...I never heard of them for some reason and it seams as though they are very well priced and from the sound of it have very good and strong scents. I have never ordered from them and need to order a lot of scents but don't want to put all my eggs in one basket sorta speak. If anyone knows anything about them please tell me before I go and order a bunch of scents through them. TIA Dana

  17. Hi Jackie, Thanks for the post reply...I am about 3 hours north of wildwood...Have had many great vacations at wildwood, I now mostly go to point pleasant it is about 1 1/2 hours from me so its very close and nice there. Well as far as my passions they are also gel and soy. I am just getting back into it after about 5 years so I have many questions going on...I love soy, well used to it seams as though things have gotten more difficult with more things to choose from...like soy? There are so many to choose from, so I for some reason bought the eco soy advanced and having alot of problems with the wicks buring out, no scent throw, air bubbles, frosting and what wicks to use I am a bit stressed over it lately...got lots of orders and now thnking I should be mixing my soy with another wax and have to do alot of wick testing...If you have any suggestions , please feel free to send me some tips. Really wanted to stay with all soy but if I keep having problems I am gunna have to think again...As far as gel I love it! But after years of not doing it the first time I did a few weeks ago the glass pot I was using blew out a piece of glass and I had gel everywhere...I always melted it in those glass teakettles that whistle and never had a problem! so now I am using the presto pot and then pouring into the alluminim pots then a glass measuring cup to see color etc but it sets up so fast that I find myself pouring and melting then pouring and melting again and again...agh...I am tired of hearing myself think...so sorry this is so long. tia Dana
  18. Thanks so much Candlemakincutiepie...I usually use 1 - 1.5 oz pp and only 1.5 if it weighs in at a bit more than 1lb of wax melted...What type of wicks do you use? I usually use jars that are 2 - 3 - 3 1/2" in diameter. This might really help me out...I know I have to test more now but if you can give me an idea? Oh and I use liqiud dye..how many drops of dye do you use? Is how much dye you use a big factor in this? Thanks so much for all your help also with the rest of you!
  19. Thats whats wierd about this ...when I made a whole bunch of pumpkins jars with pp scent and candy corn I poured them at a higher temp and poured them not so slow..and they came out with the usual frost look and still scent throw not so good, but with the xmas trees...I thought if I poured at a lower temp and very slow it would come out better...Nope...I poured at 100 degrees and very slow!? So I don"t know but I feel as though I am gunna have a big problem because I had just delivered all my pumpkins and even though I tested two and they burned fine, what if some of those have the same problems and they burn out and not stay lit for my customers ...what do I tell them????? I'm losing it here..very stressed about this..I have to switch my wax fast and besides the 6006, I have no idea what kind of wax to get...I was hoping to stay with the pure soy..everyone likes the idea of the burning clean and it being all natural... I really need some more help...what about wicks? scent and dye and all that for wax? like I said I never used regular wax before. So i don't have a clue. Do I have to get all new wicks, scent, dye etc....? I do hope everyone who responds to this I really appriciate! And so sorry for my posts being so long...just trying not to leave anything out.
  20. Thanks so much...what does igi mean is that the type of wax?
  21. I am having a very hard time with this soy....first I get no scent throw and I know the scents I buy are very good (alot of you buy them from this company) (I'm new here so I don't know if I'm allowed to say where I get them)....2nd thing is I made a few batches of candles and got sink holes in most of them and the even the ones I didnt know had them came when they were burning...Another thing is alot of wax left all around candle (small melt pools) ..I am using soy wicks, they are lx wicks..they are called soy smartwicks, anyone ever use them? I have alot left so I was wondering what type of other wax can I mix with it and how much? I used to only make gel candles so I don't know much about soy and years ago when I made soy candles they all came out great but don;t remember at all what type it was...It was before they had all these others to choose from. I am so frustrated right now over this because I have shows coming up and orders to fill. When you all talk about mixing all these differant waxes together I have no idea what you are talking about. Trying to learn but its so hard and everyone has a differant mix. So if anyone could help I'd be forever grateful. Tia Dana
  22. Thank you for all your help..I did check further on the scent page and got some good starters...and thanks for the welcoming. It feels nice when you can talk to total strangers and they seam like friends so quickly!
  23. Hi everybody..I am new here..not to candle making but to this board. My name is Dana and from NJ. I have ben making candles for many years. However I had to stop for awhile but now back in the game. I do have some questions since it's been awhile since I have made candles, I make soy and gel. I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice on the most popular scents..I realize that everyone is different and it all depends on your own people you make them for and its all trial and error. I do not yet have the funds to go buy alot of scents, I'm sure alot of you understand this. So maybe like 5 different kinds that are sure sellers would be great. Like a couple must haves for the holidays, and a couple all year must haves. TIA Dana
