I have been married for 7 years to a wonderful man. I have a wonderful active 4.5 year old. Candle making started when I wanted to save money when planning my wedding. I made all of our candles center pieces and was hooked on candles. I started making soy candles about 2.5 years ago and love it. But I have just started selling them after a lot of encourgement from family and friends.

  1. What would be the item # you order for your 4-pack?
  2. I need boxes for clear boxes tealights. Ones that will hold only 4, then the ones that will hold 6, 9, 12, etc... does anyone know where I can find them at a really good price on a regular basis. I have ordered them before and I can't remember or where I got them is not carrying them anymore. thanks
  3. My Aunt this weekend asked me if she came over everyday would I teach her to make candles and that way she could help me run my business and get a cut... Yeah Right:angry2:
  4. Thanks. We have order a few samples and are just waiting for them to come in.
  5. I have tried for almost a year to make pillars out of soy wax. I have tried different waxes, different wicks, etc... But no luck getting it to burn without a blow out. I am looking at using palm for the pillars, but I have a few questions before I order any.. What is the difference between starburst and feather? Do you have to dye them (all that we have seen are dyed)? Have you had any like with them and which brand do you prefer. Thanks for all the help.
  6. I use a scale with a tare button - so this helps to do the math for me. -Faith I have the same thing and it does make life a little easier.
  7. My father just closed his wharehouse where I had my wax delivered and stored until I needed it. So I'm back to buying by the case. I have to buy some more and am really dreading it. I have been price shopping with shipping included and it really is going to hit the checkbook hard. On the milk... We buy organic milk and are paying 5.45 pg....
  8. I use the CBA wax. I do tend to get the cracks in the wax in my smaller jars; they seem to cool down a lot faster than my bigger jars. What I have been doing lately to help with the cooling down is; placing the container back in the box that it came in and pouring the wax. It has helped with the cool down time and I haven't noticed any cracks.
  9. The following is from: http://www.forbes.com/forbes/2004/1101/172_print.html Go ahead, look for a pro. When Yankee Candle founder Michael Kittredge discovered he had cancer in 1993, he started handing over day-to-day power to a friend and longtime employee and concentrated on estate planning. He survived but sold out in 1998 for $500 million to Forstmann Little, the private equity investor, which took the company public soon thereafter. To protect its 50% stake, Forstmann Little searched for a new chief with public-company experience. .txt { color: #000000; font-family: arial; font-size: 12px;}.txt2 { color: #330099; font-family: arial; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold;}.head { color: #ffffff; background-color: #330099; font-family: arial; font-size: 18px; font-weight: bold;}Changing Of the Guard 55% The percentage of CEOs brought in from the outside who are later fired.$325,000 The average cost of recruiting the CEO of a small-cap company.54 The average age of an incoming chief.10% The percentage of public companies that change leadership each year.Sources: Booz Allen Hamilton; Hunt-Scanlon Advisors. Craig Rydin got the call in 2001. Why? The 23-year veteran of the Campbell Soup Co. had been running its Godiva chocolate business, whose distribution system mirrored that of Yankee Candle (rank 33); both sell high-price specialty goods through company-owned outlets, gift shops and department stores. Rydin's other plus: a plan for growth. "I'm not a large believer in churn-and-burn," Rydin says. Nevertheless he quietly mounted the company's first mass-market advertising campaign, buying pages in women's magazines. That move, he says, allowed Yankee to win accounts with two huge retailers--Linens 'n Things and Bed Bath & Beyond. He also commissioned research that showed Yankee's strength was in its strong fragrances, which led to successful efforts to sell lotions, soaps and sprays. Three years later the company is worth three times as much and profits are up an average annual 20.5%. Rydin has started thinking about a new challenge: choosing his own successor. THE Following is from: http://www.inc.com/multimedia/slideshows/content/self-made-ent.html In 1969, 16-year-old Mike Kittredge simply wanted to give his mom a Christmas gift. Melting a few crayons, he made a candle, which a neighbor saw -- and bought. The entrepreneurial bug bit, and today, Yankee Candle has 300 retail locations, 15,000 wholesale locations, a catalog, an e-commerce site, and international distributors.
  10. I like C. It's the easiest to read.
  11. I use ecosoya Pillar -PB for my tarts and votives. I purchase from Candle science or http://www.wholesalesuppliesplus.com/, depending on if I'm ordering FO's or supplies. But most of the time I purchase from CS.
  12. I just received an email from one of my wholesale accounts that also carries Maddison Avenue Candles Tealights and she informed me that she liked mine better buecause of the scent throw (hot & cold) and she also told me that my tealights burn longer and the flame is just right. I use CBA and love it. I have found that scents like Angel Wings does not have a good hot throw, but has a great cold throw. I have also found that a 3 to 5 day cure time really helps the scent throw. I also use LX wicks. Can't remember who said it, but heating the wax to 150/155 and adding the FO at 140/145 is a BIG help. I also pour around 125/130 depending on what the inside temp is. Hope this helps.
  13. I have experminented with Euclyptus, Peppermint, and Lavender EO's. I used it in CB-Adv wax and got great CT & HT with the Euclyptus. Peppermint was a little week on the HT. lavender not HT at all. We started with 10 drops pp and moved up to 15 drops pp. We didn't have any problems with it sinking it to the bottom. One problem that we did have was with the Peppermint... The wax completely pulled away from the jar.
  14. I use the LX8 for unscented and light FO's and the LX10 for the heavier FO. I cut the wicks in half and tab the part I cut off and so I get more for my money. I have tried the TL wicks, but they didn't work for me in my CB-Advance.
  15. I sell Arbonne and I sell my candles at my Arbonne parties. I get a lot of sells for my candles at those parties. I even take my candles to other MK & Arbonne reps parties. My area VP was one of the peeps that helped me start my candle biz. I use Propay and Paypal for Credit cards for the candle biz. Arbonne you use their system to process CC.
