  1. hi again i poured another two pillars, adding 5% palm steric, and lightly spraying mold not with pam, but a similar spray. i poured them at 200f, yesterday morning, and let them sit all day & overnight. they not falling out, but should i put in fridge or freezer? wait longer? i didnt heat the molds. i shouldve. will try again. all the best.
  2. used container blend for votives, and as suggested by the company who sold it to me, added beeswax been a while, but think it was 2 tbls to the pound. since then i have got ecosoya pillar blend. none of them "fall out". I always need to freezer them - that helps. perhaps im expecting too much.
  3. Jeana - Thought you may have meant rubbing alcohol - lol - got some of that too - use it for many clean up jobs - once again, didnt think for molds - newbie you know:rolleyes2 I have loads of trouble with release of CB135, and a so called 100% soy. the only way i can get them (votives and pillars) out is into the FRRREEZER. how do you get them to release easily? Stella - great ideas - ty so much. i love to recycle, and will take your idea for using as molds - and LOVE the consumable aspect! as you know, i am new to the pillars, and will wait till i am happy with result of standard. wicking is really poopy. Really interested in learning from you, regards to techniques for different effects. Can you please for now just to whet my appetite, name a couple? Tahnsk again. Mezz
  4. I also joined CW - Master deal. STill cant get over the amount i spent to join, not to mention, addtional cost for extra supplies. I really didnt search very far, thinking soy hadnt been investigated enough - was I wrong - i think so. Perhaps its just around my part of the woods, and CW is a fantastic company to begin with in other parts of this vast world of ours. I think I would be wise not to discuss in an open forum such as this, my experiences, with both CW and product. Never know who is watching! Yes, I am paranoid. Making candles is my sanity. Support sites such as this, are invaluable. I am saving on $s, and time, doing it alone as far as ordering supplies, and knowledge goes. Many suppliers are happy to support potential custom by sending samples - the wise ones ie, & who are confident of their product, and happy to supply any other info eg MSDS, hints how and best method to use their products. People here are friendly, you know youre not alone, and so supportive to help you get sorted out. My couple of questions here have always been answered, with great ideas. Thanks again everyone, who has helped me!*getdown*
  5. my new best friends - Geek and Jeana I cooked the molds, and they cleaned up a breeze! As I have the steric, I will try that today - pot on the boil as I type. I'll let you know whether the frosting retains its look. I really like the palm, so I am very happy that you were able to help, as I am of nature, rather lazy when it comes to clean up. I didnt want to have to ditch the palm for pillars. I do love the soy, but not very successful with pillars. Plodding along...., but thats part of the fun of our trade/art/stress relief or not/fun/maddness. Kind of like raising a family. desolvit is another good friend of mine - thanks for that hint. However, i reckon with the alcohol, it could be a matter of, restraint to keep it away from the lips! Really, i dont drink - well at least while making candles. I do love the soy, but not very successful with pillars there. Thanks again, you two. Mezz
  6. Thanks Geek first, i didnt mention that the palm i have is a FROSTED pillar blend. Have steric, but never used it. how much of the steric would i need to use, and would it affect the delibrate frosting of the blend. hmmm, PAM? never seen it in our supermarkets. could you tell me main ingredients? is it a vegetable oil? maybe i have something similar. Oh, and would this affect the overall look of the frosting? thanks, ill try cooking the mold in the oven as you suggested.
  7. Hi, Newbie here with using palm wax, and pillar molds. So, I poured two. 1). Can you please suggest household product to help with release? 2). Ideas on how to clean the molds would be greatly appreciated. :embarasse Answers are probably staring me in the face, but I'm sleepy. I been a lurker, and thank you for great suggestions and ideas. All the best. Mezz
  8. Jeanna, the only EO's I have success with is Lavender. I use an Australian EO, I am burning one now, and the throw is beautiful. I am using NV soy, and to 500 gm of wax, I add 18ml of EO. The EO must be 100% Pure. There are people selling EO's that are only 3% in a carrier. Hope this helps.
  9. Thank you for your input everyone. I am now concerned about combustibility of EO's in wax. I will take temp of the molten wax at full pool while it is burning. I am by no means a scientist, and do not have a PHD in anything, all this is a learning curve so thanks again. All mums should be given a PHD!
  10. I have used mainly EOs in NV soy. I am testing all the time, and have had success with frankincence, lavender, peppermint, patchouli, and a blend of Ylang Ylang-Patchouli-Frankincense-Clary Sage-Orange-Thyme, the latter of which I just poured and am waiting to light. I have tried mandarin, orange, and lemon with no success - seems the citruses to be too oily and heavy for the soy - they separate. I also have no success with Vanilla Planifolia (I have a question on a previous thread) - I wanted to know if there was a natural vanilla that would blend. As far as how much EO to use, this also varies - some to a large extent eg. peppermint. So far, I have noticed usage of EO is about 18ml to 21ml per 500 gm of wax (and this is dependent on the oil esp peppermint)- soz I am in OZ ounces and pounds went out in the 60's and I cant remember the conversion. MOMMY2XP - I have seen somewhere, a blend of lav EO and vanilla FO - I think it was in a soap base recipe - I wouldnt do it in case of rashes etc - maybe it was for laundry soap. I am only very new to candles, so my information is only based on my trials of the past 4 weeks or so. And to boot, I have only used the NV soy as the major part of my "experiments". I would appreciate if this has been discussed before, if someone could kindly point me to where I should look, as I am only new to this discussion board and cant drive it properly yet. Thanks again.

  12. Hi, Does anyone have experience with EO's and how to blend with soy? Thanks
  13. Hi again, and thanks to those who sent me a warm welcome. I am only new to making soy (NV) candles, and am having a ball. Have had good progress with essential oils and synthetic frangrances. I recently purchased Vanilla Planifolia as it was listed in my suppliers list as an essential oil (I am also learning about ess oils). I have at this moment, added the VP to the NV, but its not blending - the VP remains in tiny globules, and settling on the bottom of the pot. Can you please tell me whether VP is not soluble in the NV; and should I not use this in the NV? If not, could you please tell me, whether there is a natural vanilla (and what would it be named) that is soluble in the NV. Also, would it matter to leave it the way it is, as there seems to be an throw coming from it; or is it going to react in some weird way? Thanks
  14. Hi Everyone, My friend Marie or ms98aus here in Oz suggested that I join this "club" and I will surely learn from some very talented people here - the art of candle making. So here I am. I started pouring about 3 weeks ago and am hooked - another good thing to come out of it, my family have learnt how to at least boil water - cause they have noticed if they don't, they'll go without! Thanks Marie for introducing me to the world of wax! I'm loving every moment, even the flops at this stage. I hope to get some help from you all, as soon as I work out how this forum works. All the best
