  1. Thank you Holly for posting this & Vicki for all your help. I checked out some of the "styles" you purchased & I see what you mean by taking your time picking out the classy ones. Again, thanks for taking the time for that info
  2. Thank you all for your great suggestions. I actually ended up making the cucumber melon a white color & while browsing the gallery I saw a palm pillar by dcroome (sorry if I spelled that nick wrong) that was hot pink. It was love @ first sight for the summer splash! Now.....anyone know how to get a hot pink color ? Maybe pink & a little orange?
  3. I LOVE that pink! If you don't mind me asking, what formula did you use color wise to get that shade in palm?
  4. You are very talented! Hand carved candles sell for a fortune in these parts. I've even seen them in some of the better galleries. Good for you & keep up the great work!
  5. Vicky ~ are these warmers made with real glass or some sort of hard plastic or resin type material? I think these would go over very well in my area also. I too have alot of super center shoppers in this area. Holly, thumbs up for posting this
  6. Great suggestions, would of never thought of the pale orange for cucumber melon! Thanks :smiley2:
  7. Wow, they really do have some warmers. I might just order one myself to see how well they do. Interested also if anyone has used one of these.
  8. I have noticed that alot of my line is getting "green". Since Im working with Palm Pillar wax I don't have alot of options with shading, being that I like to keep it light. Can anyone suggest a color for me for Cucumber & melon that ISN'T green. Also any ideas on a fruity scent called summer splash, I was thinking a light pale orange (too many blues too, lol) TIA
  9. IMO the best way to get your business going, is to get yourself going Start telling everyone what you do for a living, make business cards & hand them out to everyone. Create a brochure and do the same. Have some of your friends "host" a candle party for you (make sure you start a mailing list ~it's invaluable) Put on your best sales person smile & start going around to gift shops, boutiques, salons etc. and sell, sell, sell. I recommend good, reputable craft shows too. You need to get your product out there. Don't forget to write up your business plan, it helps you to focus & stay organized. Also try your local small business owners association. You may not find a candlemaker, but others sharing their business & marketing ideas help alot. Starting any business is tough, but hang in there, doing what you love for a living is priceless. Good luck !
  10. Candlenubie, In ref to your post about J223/CBL-125. I tried mixing those waxes @ all sorts of percentages. Almost every wick I tried sooted like crazy. But they both did this to some degree on their own also. These waxes are very similiar & I would just work with one or the other.... in the end I saw no benefit of blending them. HTH
  11. Oh yes I only have (1) 3"dia mold but quite a few wick pins, so when I need to make mutiple pillars I let them harden around the outside & the top has hardened (you can usually see that the wax has pulled away from the mold) I pull the candle straight out by the top of the wick pin & then let it solidify. I don't have any problems with poking relief holes or doing repours while it is out of its mold. Candlewic had some good info on their site when I 1st started playing w/ palm wax (info no longer there) but it stated that "further cooling outside molds is encouraged, where there is little chance of deformation and other failures". Another reason why I think palm pillar wax is A+
  12. To answer you question about palm....I haven't had a problem with pillars & seeing a difference in their burn after setting for a very long time. There cold throw does reduce quite a bit though after a month or so. Now the containers on the other hand, in my experience, were such a nightmare that I actually gave up on making them all together. Even after 60 days of sitting, my once perfectly wicked candle was way under-wicked IMO, I found palm container wax (tested this wax for almost a year) was way to incosistent to be made safely.
  13. Brenda got it right, there are some palms that you need to add stearic too in order to release from the molds ~ mold release will not work. I also buy my palm pillar wax from candlesandsupplies & I usually can pull them out of my 3"dia mold after about an 1 1/2 and then let them set until hardened. I can't say enough good things about this palm....it is from Aroma Tech, Starburst Pillar Candle Wax. www.aromatec.com Their website is about their FO's but you could contact them to find a distributor of their palm pillar wax if candlesandsupplies isn't close to where you live. HTH
  14. Simply stunning. Very asian looking to me. Beautiful candle & an excellent job!
  15. 18oz square apothecary w/ a 62z. No matter the wax or FO this is the best jar ever, always clean & soot free.
