@TallTayl could you assist me in finding this post. I've tried searching but have not come across anything.

So I poured 3 unscented candles last night with 2 different HTP wicks and 1 Zinc. I woke up this morning and there each candle has a small sinkhole/air pocket near the wick. This has not happened before and I did not change anything as far as temps. I think it will be any easy fix with a heat gun. Just curious what temps you all are using? I am blending 75% 4627 and 25% 464. I pre-heat the glass in a 170 oven. I heat the wax to 185 which is when I add fragrance and then allow to cool and pour at 170. Do you think the wicks hold more air than others? Perhaps the ambient air was cooler while they were drying. I am at another loss.

I have a selection of HTP and Zinc wicks arriving today and will start testing those to see if I get a better burn.

Right now I am testing with no FO. I am using 75% 4627 and 25% 464. I am test burning a LX16 and LX20 right now. The LX16 struggled for a while but it is starting to burn better. I am just afraid when I add FO the LX16 will be too small. The LX16 is burning slower than the LX20 which is expected but the LX16 left hangup until the candle burned about 1/4 of the way down the container.

I assume you both are using containers that are around 3" in diameter. I will check out the HTP wicks.

I just posted a very similar topic - I am looking on advice for wicking. I started out using 100% Soy but found the Scent Throw did not meet my expectations and I did not like the look of the candle after it burned. I've tested a few formulas and I am happy with 75% IGI 4627 and 25% 464. The scent throw is great and the appearance is great - just having a little bit of trouble finding the right wick to use. Be forewarned if you decide to test IGI 4627 it is very messy - it almost has a Vaseline like consistency. I choose 4627 because it holds the most scent and the reviews I read said it had a very good CT and HT. The reason I decided to blend was I like the scent throw qualities and the smoothness of the paraffin but I like the creaminess of the soy.

I am having a really hard time finding a wick that works in a IGI 4627/Golden Brands 464 Blend. I have tried the ECO wicks and they smoke like crazy. I am still testing with the LX Wicks but so far from my test, the LX22 is too large and starts to smoke after a while and leaves carbon around the rim of the container - scent throw is great though. The LX20 seems to be doing okay but with some mushrooming and I am afraid when I add fragrance it will not work as well. The container is a straight sided tumbler with a diameter of about 3". Just curious if anyone has any other suggestions. I appreciate everyone's eagerness to help on here - found the site randomly a few weeks ago and signed up - I have already learned so much!

Thanks @kandlekrazy! I do not think I have the skills to use an untabbed wick just yet. I actually poured new candles and wicked down 2 different sizes, I decided I am going to test the wicked up candles and wicked down candles at the same time and see what happens. We shall see.

Thank you, unfortunately I am using tabbed wicks. I did not think it was possible to swap out the wicks without remelting the entire candle unless I used wick pins or something solid in place of the wick that could easily slide out.

Having trouble finding a good wick that burns properly in a new wax blend. I recently poured some test candles but I wicked up when I think I should have wicked down. I saw a post where someone mentioned swapping the wicks out. Is this possible? I have 2 or 3 candles that I have not even started burning. Any one have any tips on this? @kandlekrazy is the one who suggested this in an older post.

Thank you! Yes, that is my issue. I can not find a supplier in the US that sells anything even close. I really do not want to deal with Alibaba or order internationally because shipping is outrageous. And even if I did use Alibaba the minimums are quite high.

Thanks for replying! Candle container options are VERY limited and hard to find, it seems for some reason several Australian suppliers have lots of pretty neat options! I saw the tins on Amazon but I feel the price is a bit steep at $3.00 each, I do not even pay that for my glass vessels. The ones from Papermart look too shiny. My search continues. Below is just some examples of different containers I would be interested in finding.

Why is finding decent, unique and affordable containers such a hassle? It looks like some of the top suppliers would take notice and improve their selection. Does anyone have any good sources? Also, does anyone have a source for Matte Black Metal Tins w/ lids, preferably 6-8 oz. ? I would prefer to order domestically to avoid international shipping. Thanks in advance!
