Best para-soy blend for container candles?
CatCatCandles replied to Venetti's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
Hi, which wax or blend have you found works great with LX? I got a sample pack for trying in just paraffin, but would be good to know how it performs in soy as well. I've used ECO 4 and 10's in a 464/4630 blend, with ok results. The throw's not spectacular, but there's no sooting. --> With eco 4 in an 8oz straight sided jar, FO 8%, i got a full melt pool in the first 2 hours burn. -
Loving RE ! Any recs from this awesome place ?

Hi! @talltayl just wondering do you use a ready made base for your sprays or make your own? i need some help refining my home made mixture. would appreciate your input here! thanks -
@Dorothy Mantooth which wicks did you use? yh i just burnt the single candle i made with this blend using an eco wick and i Like the results. I didn't even let it 'cure'. I burnt it on the 2nd day after pouring and the HT was there. i find paraffin a little annoying to work with compared to soy and the top of my candle didn't dry smooth initially but it was easily fixed with a heat gun. however after each burn the top of the candle dries perfectly. So I think i'm gna stick with this one are you back to using 100% 464?

i really like their tobacco vanilla, and black fig & honey

Hey Dorothy, have you burned the 464/4630 blends yet? How did it go ?
-
oh wow you got strong HT with straight gb 464 after 2 days? the fO must be very strong. what happened to letting it cure for 7-14 days. i' just got the 210 , should have it by this weekend:) ; how are you liking it?

hi moonstar, the short answer is NO. no tunneling with the ECO4. The ECO4 did much better than ECO10 after the first 2 hours burn so that's the one i've been testinG. so far i've burned the candle WITH ECO4 5 times for a total of about 14 hours now. the first time i got some HT was after 18days of curing. it's decent but not strong enough for what i intended. what are some FO's you know are very strong in gb464. I think i should try some that are tried and tested. if i do and it's still not strong enough for what I want, it might have to add some paraffin. no i haven't tried this yet, since i eventually got some HT, just not as strong as i think is marketable

Hii! yes the cold throw for this one was very store, i was almost certain the candle would be a hit! . but alas I lit it and was super disappointed. Which FO and from which company are you referring to? also what wick/jar combination were you using when you got good HT? and how long did you let it cure for ? Which products are you testing these days?

16 ounce apothecary jars
CatCatCandles replied to moonshine's topic in General Candle Making Discussions
hey @obsessed were the weird tops the only problem you had wit hate 464/4630 blend? how was the hot throw and which wicks did you use? BTW did you try using a heat gun, i find that I have to heat almost all my tops which i pour around 135, though I've been using 100% soy. i spoke to someone who uses 100% 464 and consistently gets smooth tops from pouring at 145. that may or may not help since you're using a parasoy blend. -
Oil separation in 464?
CatCatCandles replied to jbradshaw's topic in Vegetable Wax & Beeswax Candle Making
@jbradshaw im taking your tip and pouring close to 145 next batch! fingers crossed for beautiful tops. I also always stir for at least 2 minutes timed with a spoon. maybe i'll stir more. @birdcharmin the info section for GB 464, CS actually says the max fragrance is 12% or 2oz/lb. so that's what I used as a guideline. but absolutely noted! i'll go much lower next time seeing as 12% is counter productive and expensive. -

@jbradshaw oh wow, that's so surprising to me. perhaps you have magic pouring hands. I'm pouring at 130-135. How much FO as are you using ? I'm putting in about 2ozpp. do the top of your candles consistently cool without imperfections after burning? -
Must have fall/christmas from CS?

I loveeee mistletoe! the name alone had me all giddy and reminiscent of my favorite time of the year. I just ordered white birch, fig tree, toasted pumpkin and pomegranate cider. can't wait to smell them. I wish i had read the forum early enough, I would've added a bottle of xmas hearth too.
