  1. I did test them several times. With 3 wicks and with 5 really thin wicks. It was a slow burn which lasted days. I am foxed as to how there was a leakage. Because they are such big candles they take really long to burn fully. And the client had taken 3 of them in 3 different heights. Only the shortest one is the one in which she has had this issue. I wonder if it’s the height of the candle that made it consume the wax like that. I plan to retest and only then put them back on sale and probably go back to 3 or 4 wicks closer to the center.
  2. Thank you guys for all the suggestions.
  3. Thanks TallTayl in fact the 5 wicks consumed all the wax in 2 hours is what the client said..
  4. Guys I make these big candles.. I used to make them with 3 wicks earlier and there would be unused wax around it like a thick wall ! Then I made them with 5 thin wicks and this happened.. can anyone throw some light as to how to get them to burn only inward and create a thin wall when burning so that there is no leakage. Clients expect all the wax to be used , a slow burn and no leakage. Well hope someone has the perfect answer for me. It’s paraffin wax.. diameter is 6 inches and FO is 7% Thanks in advance!
  5. HI guys I have been making pure beeswax sachets which are also called scented wax tablets. I see a lot of tutorials out there that say one should use essential oils for these. From my limited knowledge wax and essential oil are not a good match. Also a lot of guys insist that soy wax has the best throw. Or a mix of beeswax and soy! Basically I am looking for a good cold throw that would last for some time .Recently I see that my tablets don't have that much of a good cold throw. I use pure beeswax (cosmetic grade) and 12% fragrance load. Anybody with some experience in making these tablets would you please throw some light on this ! Thanks in advance> always so much to learn from this forum.
  6. The moment I increase soy I get a lot of flakiness and frosting on my candles. Especially on the top which does not go with the heat gun. It almost looks like the wax has curdled on the top. What kind of vegetable shortening are you referring to ?
  7. Firstly what a wealth of knowledge there is on this forum! Thanks guys you always take the time to reply and that’s not easy. I really appreciate it. I live in Mumbai. We don’t get pre blended waxes here so I make my own blend with 60%soy, 40% paraffin.. some stearin and some micro wax. Candle making is at its nascent stage here. It’s not profesional like it is in other places so the challenges are very many. So I do the best I can with different permutations, combinations. People are also not that happy to share info. I have been looking to study all the material on candle making so that I have some clarity on the science behind achieving good HT and CT. The person I learnt candle making from in France did not really give any importance to this at all. And at that time I had no idea how important fragrance and achieving a good throw is the most important thing to a candle. I keep testing. Though that’s a bit of a long road..it takes lot of patience and frustration! Thanks again Guys .. always learn a lot from you guys.
  8. Blend of soy and paraffin, also tried it with beeswax, and with only paraffin too
  9. Thanks. I agree that sometimes variables are challenging. I was wondering if something can be added to the wax to encourage the wax to throw better. I read somewhere that coconut oil can enhance throw ...
  10. Has anyone ever faced issues with a particular fragrance not getting emitted? I use the same blend and wick size and container for all my fragrances and gets good HT and CT but there’s this lemon grass from the same supplier that I have used in the past too and suddenly no HT at all. I am foxed! Tested with different waxes, different wick sizes but no result. I am now going to attempt reducing the load and keep fingers crossed 🤞. I have been using 10% even tried with 12%.no luck ! It’s not even that the FO is old or that there is no fragrance in it. Put it in a diffuser and tremendous fragrance throw! Suddenly I feel I know nothing of candle making when a strange challenge like this shows up after 4 years of making candles! I have been trying to fix this issue since a couple of months, reading up on FO etc but have not succeeded and hate to give up! If anyone can throw some light or share some tips on what to do I would appreciate it. TIA
  11. I have tried lavender, lemon grass and citronella
  12. Guys I am struggling to get a good and lasting cold throw in my beeswax tablets/sachets! Any ideas on what I can do to make the fragrance stronger and last longer. There are guys who promise the wax tablet will last for a year.. is that possible? I use 100% cosmetic grade beeswax and a load of 12% of FO. Some guys claim that they use essential oils. I have tested that several times but never get a good throw with EO. TIA ..please share your thoughts.. thanks again

  15. Guys I have a question about gold candles. What is the best method to get a nice gold effect on the whole candle? Does painting a candle work? I tried but it emanates a very synthetic smell and the fragrance gets completely lost.. I even tried the glitter which is candle safe but don’t get the look! any ideas please ...thanks in advance for your time
  16. Thank you guys for engaging with this topic! I still struggle with this question posed by buyers about using natural ingredients ie wax and scented oil... if I try to educate them they don’t really want to know the ‘truth’ and move on to the guys who say they use EO and don’t . I guess at the end of the day one can only practice what one truly believes in.. and be willing to pay the price of losing some clients in the bargain..
  17. Guys with the world turning and wanting ‘organic ‘ and natural ingredients in everything I am faced with a dilemma! Wonder what people out there are doing about it .. would love to share some thoughts and learn some stuff too. I have been making paraffin wax candles, also make a para soy blend. I use beeswax for melts. But the real issue is with FO. From what I know and have tested out too.. essential oils do not work in candles! There is hardly any hot throw. And as far I as I know most people use candle grade fragrance oil. Which is not natural or organic . If one wants to move to 100% organic what are the options? One could move to soy wax.. maybe coconut wax ( which is not available so far) where I live.. or even beeswax but what do you substitute for fragrance? There are quite a few companies out there that say made from 100% natural ingredients.. what do they use.. how do they do that? What am I missing! Guys please share your thoughts and throw some light on this Thanks in advance for taking time to help!
  18. Thank you so very much for all the inputs..at one of the fairs I participated in there was this lady who made tea lights as samplers for fragrances which is a cool idea. I thought maybe they were made with some beeswax as the throw was amazing. I too make beeswax sachets with natural beeswax which have amazing cold throw. Some Japanese sachet makers say their fragrance lasts up to six months. As these are never lit I wonder if they add something to make it last so long !
  19. How do I swab on the fragrance? Mix some in wax and over pour ?
  20. Plastic is banned in india now. I use btw 6 and 7 % fo in my pillars and 10% in containers. Can mixing etc affect cold throw
  21. You mean wrapped in plastic/paper? No I don’t wrap them
  22. Does anyone have some secret to a good cold throw in paraffin wax pillars as people only buy if they get a strong fragrance and not all fragrances have great cold throw ! Please do share.. thanks! Some people who sell candles seem to get a really good cold throw so the candle smells great when you pick it up and smell it.tho I bought one of those to test and it had no hot throw at all. Am just curious how that works ! Ideally it should have both right ? Thanks in advance to every one who takes the time to share their wealth of knowledge.
  23. The titanium dioxide did help, I used very little .and of course if I make them unscented that really helps.
  24. Hey Guys i wonder if everyone who makes candles faces challenges everyday ! And if confidence takes a beating.... my questions i make paraffin wax candles Whenever I make a two or three color candle For eg a brown base and a white on top ...it turns out perfect but over time the brown bleeds a bit into the edges of the white and that looks so tacky!! And this happens with most colours . In fact I made a kind of log with 2 whites and a brown centre... They are not even attached ... Even when they were kept side by side the color bled ! Anything you guys do to prevent this from happening ....please help I also sometimes face a problem with fragrance leak , I stir for two minutes at 180 ...use a FO load of 6 % ,pour ....when the wax is around 150 into the mould... Sometimes there will be little bubbles on the top of the candles which when tapped kinda burst and fragrance oil leaks out. I get so spooked out and worried that could this be a fire hazard...I have read that wax is like a sponge and can hold only a certain amount of fragrance .should I reduce the load but then I may not get enough throw...guys please throw some light on this Thanks some much for taking time to help newbies like me...really appreciate it!
  25. I have been pouring quite cold below 70..it does not happen every time ..using a paraffin wax blend. And I let them cool all night before doing the last pour
