  1. No, my husband opened my cabinet to grab scissors and my glitter fell out of the cabinet, and it went everywhere! I wasnt about to go digging every spec out. The counter was a mess the floor was a mess... Sorry about that being shown.
  2. THANK YOU, For ALL your replies. I really appreciate it. Last night I spent a great deal of time thinking it has to be the Dragons Blood, and came to the conclusion that most of you experts out there already knew, which was the viscosity of the fragrance oil can play a part of how a candle will burn. Lesson learned is to weigh the oil before you wick it! And of course, I did not give it a thought about the coloring could also play a part in how a candle will burn. Its kinda funny some people think its easy, just pour the wax and BAM! there's a candle! There is a lot of variables that goes into making a good candle. Again, Thanks for your replies and kindness.
  3. Hello everyone. Hope everyone's day is going well. Here is my question. Okay so I made two candles, one with vybar I bought at Michael's (only because I didn't realize i was out) and the other without. I used the left over wax I had which was 6006 and the same size tins and same wick. I used two different FO's one being sun washed linen and the other was dragons blood. When it was time to burn them, the sun washed linen burned so well, not a bit of wax on the sides, which that one had the vybar. The other, left wax along the sides, it didn't tunnel, but then again, leaving any wax around the sides isnt a pretty sight. So my question is, could vybar really of made that difference or could it of been the thickness of the fragrance oil used (dragons blood) I cant imagine that Michael's vybar would make such a difference! Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  4. Now I know I am really really new here, so forgive me if I am totally wrong about what I am about to say. I have been reading so much about Soy and Paraffin and the differences, and the positive and the negatives. Supposedly as long as the soy wax is at least 20% or more, you are allowed to label it as soy candle. I don't know that i would go as far to say its 100% because everyone could easily read that it can't be totally 100% pure soy wax. Apparently the law doesn't regulate this. I plan to do my homework though...just in case!
  5. Thanks so much for answering. I was under the impression that there was some product/additive out there that was supposed to be in my candles, I really appreciate the help. I am using 6 oz and 8 oz tins right now, and i try and use no more then 8% fragrance because I don't want to ruin the wax. I am using CS 6006. I try and let them cure for 2 weeks at least. The wicks was a real headache, but i think i finally got that under control. :0) I have been trying different fragrances from different places to see which smells the best, and best for the money at the same time. I will for sure check into the UV though. Thank you again for your help-advice. I really appreciate you taking the time to help.
  6. I am so glad i found this place! I am new to making candles, and have read so much, I never realized how many things there was to learn about candle making. So my big question, Is there an additive for Soy wax that will help the fragrance? Cold throw I am not concerned with, But when I light the candle, I feel it should or could be stronger, but I don't want to drown it out either. I know you can use vybar, but i thought that was only for paraffin primarily, and not so much for the fragrance release for soy. And of course the UV, but I live in ND, its not hot here, and I don't plan to keep the candles near a window, so I did not think that was what i needed. So i thought you experts would know something i should be using to help the soy wax release fragrance better. Thanks in advance. And I will apologize now for what may just be a really simple question.
  7. What's your name? Laurie How old are you? 50 Where do you live? North Dakota, but born in Pittsburgh, PA How long have you been making candles/soap/whatever? I admit I am a newbie, and learning everyday! How did you get started making candles/soap/whatever? I wanted a new hobby. Are you married? Any kids?Yes, I married my best friend. All together 9 kids, last one home is 17, and 3 Grand babies. If candle/Soap making isn't your primary job, what do you do? Cook/Bake/ spend time with my grand babies, and still a mom to all the others. We all live pretty close to one another, which is nice. My youngest son lives one street over, which means if he goes in his back yard, and I go to my back yard, he could hand me his laundry! Thank god he won't see this, and get any ideas! He already comes over a few nights a week for dinner! haha. Anything else we should know? Lets see, I was adopted by my Aunt when I was 18 months old, I do not know who my Father is, and my Husband is also adopted and nor does he know who his Biological parents are either. But that's probably not what you wanted to know. So, We have been in the United States Navy for 21 years, and finally retired. When it was time to retire, we came here to North Dakota because of children. Being in the Military you get stationed every 3-4 years. We felt that if we moved here a year before he was to retire, then our children would finally have stability and at the same time, we would be able to see the Grand children. He finished his time in Somalia, fighting Pirates and finally came home here in ND to join all the kids and I. He now has since started his second career and I have been able to take care of the family. Now that most are gone, I find myself a little stir crazy, because we live in a population of 1900 people, and the nearest wal-mart or shopping center is 74 miles one way. Big difference from growing up in PA, or other States we were stationed. Hope all those details about me, helps get to know me a little bit. Oh....did I mention I have 4 dogs? Cant forget them. Although one of them is my Son's, yeah the one who lives behind me, he wanted me to babysit him last April for the weekend, its now almost a year later and I still have him! :0) Thanks for welcoming me in everyone, and I hope to learn a bunch and maybe one day help another! <3
